Thoughts on our approach
The goal isn't just to build good software; it's to build useful software. The best way to achieve this is by involving you, the end user, early in the development process. This core idea drives the way I'm building Nippu.
The challenge
While good software can be well-designed and functional, it falls short if it doesn't address real needs. Many software projects stumble here, creating solutions in isolation without understanding users' day-to-day challenges.
Since I'm not an accountant, I don't fully grasp the intricacies of accounting or the pain points in your daily work. Building Nippu in isolation would likely miss the mark, resulting in a product far inferior to one developed in collaboration with you.
The approach
I believe the best results come from combining our expertise. You understand the accounting domain, while I can take responsibility for the software side. Together, we can create a tool that truly serves your needs. Think of it as if you've hired me as a consultant to build a custom software tool specifically for you.
In my opinion, the Venn diagram above illustrates my thoughts quite well:
- Software: How to build. I know how to develop software that works well. I can take care of all the technical side of things and put the pieces together.
- Domain knowledge: What to build. You know the details of accounting and what makes your daily work hard. You bring insights on what features are important.
- Nippu: Together, we have a higher probability of building a useful tool.
Why collaborate?
I believe this way of working would be mutually beneficial, with our incentives aligned. You don't have to commit to anything upfront, and you can help shape the product to better suit your needs. Here are the main benefits I see:
- Risk-free: No commitment of money or time.
- Purpose-built: A tool tailored to fit your specific needs.
- Early access: You can choose to use Nippu while still in beta.
For me, the benefits are equally compelling:
- Insights: I get to learn about your domain and challenges.
- Feedback: You provide valuable input that helps shape Nippu.
How to collaborate?
I want to keep the process as simple as possible. I'm open to suggestions on how you would like to collaborate, but here's how I envision it:
- Updates: I post regular updates on the progress and features I'm working on next.
- Feedback: You provide feedback on the features and suggest improvements.
- Testing: You test new features and provide feedback on how they work for you.
- Iterations: I iterate based on the feedback and improve the features.
